Presbytery Votes on Proposed Amendments to the BCO
Ten BCO Amendments Ratified by Presbyteries; One Declined by the 53rd Assembly
At the 52nd General Assembly, commissioners approved 13 proposed amendments to the Book of Church Order and sent them to the presbyteries for ratification — the constitutionally required second step before any BCO change takes effect. The Stated Clerk tabulated votes from all 87 presbyteries.
Ten of the 13 amendments achieved the required two-thirds supermajority in the presbyteries. The 53rd General Assembly then declined one of those amendments. The remaining nine ratified amendments are incorporated into the BCO.
Items 1 and 13 failed to reach the presbytery threshold and were not adopted. Commissioners wishing to revisit the failed amendments or propose modifications may do so through a new overture to a future Assembly.
